Client Reviews
“I met Laura working at an architectural firm in Los Cabos and she showed me the types of residential projects they did and I liked the style they handled. I was about to start a house in Pedregal de Cabo San Lucas and I invited her to work on that project on her own, and she agreed to do it. My professional experience with her was very satisfactory, I consider her to have very good taste, simple and elegant. This house is contemporary in style and we were all very surprised with the result. People who have the opportunity to see the house always have very good comments. He is a person of strong character and defends his ideas, which was very beneficial for the results of the project. She accompanied us and supervised the whole process of the work, which accurately captured her idea of the house. I consider her to be a very talented and very good person. It was a great experience to work with her on this project”.

“I have had the wonderful experience of working with Jeff and his top notch crew on numerous building projects here in San Miguel over the past 4 years. While his knowledge of building runs deep it is equally matched with excellent communication skills. I felt partnered with Jeff when embarking on any of my projects - where no question or concern was too small to respond to or consider. Jeff is a creative problem solver throughout the design and building phase, keeping in mind cost and the customer's priorities. And while all projects hit bumps in the road Jeff is able to manage these with patience and a sense of humor. It speaks volumes that most of Jeff's crew have worked with him for many years. Jeff is my go-to builder here in San Miguel!”

“In addition to being an incredible contractor with so much attention to detail and quality, Jeff is an overall great guy to work with. He is patient, understanding, trustworthy and always very fair. Our home that he built for us is a masterpiece and we honestly appreciate the care and attention that went into the construction on a daily basis. Jeff continues to work with us years later as we complete smaller projects here and there in the house and is always responsive and helpful. If you’re in San Miguel and want true quality construction with fair prices, Jeff is the absolute best!
Jeff built us our dream home, and I am so happy that we chose him as our contractor. He is incredibly knowledgeable, honest, responsive, flexible and has an admirable dedication to quality. Beyond that, he’s just a wonderful person who is a pleasure to work with. I give him my highest recommendation..”

“I worked with Jeff and Laura on the design and construction of my house in 2015. Having come up with my own design, Laura was incredibly supportive, skilled and proficient at helping me work out the finer details. She has a natural flair for good design and is an incredible repository of knowledge, both technical and aesthetic, which proved invaluable in determining the best solution to some of the trickier problems.
The construction itself was carried out with efficiency, professionalism and an excellent eye to detail, and I was very pleased with the quality of the end result. I would highly recommend Jeff and Laura's services. They are warm, professional and above all, highly skilled individuals, who work together in a very successful synergy from which the client only stands to benefit.”

“In 2017 when we decided to build our house, my husband and I looked at several options and it was more than a wise choice to hire Laura and Jeff. We really liked the project they proposed and we worked with them very pleasantly. As we went along we agreed on some adjustments and both my husband and I were very happy with the final result. One aspect to highlight is that the compressed adobe used in part of the construction, it was a great suggestion because our house, besides being beautiful, is remarkably thermal. It is a pleasure to have friends and family members who enter for the first time invariably exclaim, "what a beautiful house!"”

“I have worked on various projects with Jeff over the last 15 years or so. He’s a pleasure to work with, does excellent work and is responsive to project needs. His always expanding interest and expertise with natural finishes and adobe is an important reason why we keep working together. Together with Laura they make a formidable team.”

“My husband and I have lived in San Miguel for eighteen years and always thought it was crazy that many of our friends wanted to build. Their complaints echoed our sentiments until we met Laura Campos and Jeff Rottler.
Laura designed a contemporary home that had elegant clean lines, floating stairs, abundant windows with garden views and a gracious flow from room to room. Laura and Jeff built the house on speculation and redesigned the second floor to meet our wants and needs while creating a covered outdoor living space for year around enjoyment.
Laura designed and problem solved while Jeff co-created and built with US standards in mind. Eco friendly was important to us and the water collection system, small and efficient, added benefit and value to the home during rainy season. Confident that this house under their expertise would result in the perfect house for us without the headaches, we forged ahead and enjoyed the process.
After completion, Jeff invited architectural students to tour the home as well as clients who considered building from scratch. We were happy to show the quality and integrity of the home as well as function and beauty. Several friends went on to build with Laura and Jeff and were satisfied beyond measure.
If we were to ever consider building a one story home as we advance in years, we would make one call to the dynamic duo, Laura Campos and Jeff Rottler.”

“The quality, craftsmanship, and attention to detail that Jeff and Laura provide are really second to none. They built an extension on our home with stabilized compressed earthblock and beautiful natural plasters and paints (mixed by Jeff himself!). The boveda roof Jeff and his team built is breathtaking, a true work of art! Jeff and Laura also always provide incredibly fair and transparent pricing.
Even more so than the quality of the work is the reliability of Jeff and his team. We honestly didn't realize how important that was here in San Miguel when we first worked with Jeff many years ago, and we took it for granted. Over the years we've worked with a couple of others on small projects, but we didn't realize how spoiled we were with Jeff! He always responds, and he always finds a way to get the job done no matter how difficult or frustrating. We remember that we had a small leak in the roof (not caused by Jeff) that just wouldn't go away. We also had a few pesky challenges with part of our remodel due to an issue with our roof. Jeff came back again and again until the job was done. He always shows up when he says he will, which is unfortunately rare in SMA! And he keeps showing up until the job is done.
Moving forward, knowing what we know now after 13 years in San Miguel, Jeff and Laura will always be our first choice for any remodel or new construction we may take on.”

“Jeff Rottler and Laura Campos are a consummate building team. If you want reliability, durability and green sustainability in the creation of your house they are your dream team. We have been living in the house that they built for 12 years now and we can say that it has been a pleasure to work with them, that they came in on budget, that their crew was friendly and hardworking, that the finishing details were attended to with focus and speed, and that we have a wonderfully built, solid, eco-friendly house to boot. Our American architect’s basic drawings were very capably rendered into building code compatible blueprints by Laura, a Mexican licensed architect. She was able to finesse them through the building permit process with ease. She also took charge of budgeting and accounting, which worked out very seamlessly.
Jeff was always attentive to every detail of his cheerful and hardworking crew. He was able to spot problems before they arose and create solutions that made the building with compressed earth block seamless. He was open to changes but would let us when our ideas would not work and why, which we appreciated. Our contract with them came with a 1 year warranty to address any issues that might have arisen, which gave us much peace of mind. They are a great team with a stellar crew.
I found them through researching how to build with compressed earth block (CEB), which is an eco-friendly time honored building method (similar to that which was used to build the Coliseum in Rome: talk about durable! The walls are thick, like traditional adobe, cool in the summer and warm in the winter. I highly recommend this method for its aesthetics and comfort, but I know that the Rottler’s also know every other masonry material from standard brick and mortar to adobe to Aircrete and we are dreaming of our next casita project to involve them on. They are also experts in natural non-toxic paints and finishes. You are welcome to contact us if you wish to see the house.”

“I have known Jeff Rottler for over 16 years. Not only has he been a trusted and reliable friend, but also a talented builder. When I was an officer of an organization called Casita Linda, our not-for –profit group of volunteers was building small emergency dwellings for extremely poor families. Many were living in bamboo shacks. Some on the ground with tarps hung over clothes lines for “protection.” When an acquaintance contacted me about the possibility of building a Community Center in honor of his late mother, I told him I would confer with my fellow board members. After much discussion, it was felt that this was not part of our mission. By happenstance I was contacted by the director of the Rhode Island School of Design who had heard about Casita Linda and was interested in setting up a summer workshop with her students. To make a long and complicated story short, when the donor offered to underwrite the project, the board finally relented, as long as I took responsibility for the project. This is where Jeffrey came in to the picture. He looked at the designs that RISD created and assured me he and his team could make this happen.
Jeff took this project on as a personal mission. He worked tirelessly for several months, donating his time, to help create a community center in a village that had minimal resources. At project completion, the mayor was so impressed with the result, that she organized an elaborate dedication ceremony with State and City officials in attendance. At her yearly presentation to the city later that year, she highlighted the Community Center with special thanks to the donor and of course Jeffrey Rottler.”

“Initially, the thought of building a house in Mexico seemed overwhelming, but we owned two lots on a green space, only a twenty-minute flat walk to the Jardin and had a dream. After I had purchased five dump truck loads of 16th-century Cantera, I began sketching plans for a large Mexican colonial home. Jeff and Laura made the dream possible
The wide-open first floor of our home on Calle Guadalupana features 12-foot ceilings throughout with boveda ceilings in the entry, reading area, and full bath. We still marvel at the 20 arches and the view through the 8-foot doors on each side of the fireplace to the covered patio and the large garden with Koi pond and waterfall. The 12-foot ceilings continue on the second floor. Our master bedroom has a private patio looking over the green space and shares a common patio with my office and Cathy's studio. These three rooms also have boveda ceilings, making a total of six. The guest bedroom has a private patio facing the sunset.
Laura was incredibly supportive, skilled, and proficient at helping me work out the finer details. Together we planned a third-floor casita for live-in help when needed in the future and designed a space where an elevator could easily be added. Thanks to Laura's suggestions, the kitchen, master bath, and guest baths are stunning. The materials that Jeff recommended were excellent.
The construction was carried out efficiently, professionally, and with an excellent eye for detail. After living in our home for nearly seven years, we are still very pleased with the quality. The house that Jeff and Laura built for us has withstood the test of time and we highly recommend their services.”

“Jeff and Laura were a great team to work with. Laura thoughtfully designed a home that comprised our wish list and matched our design esthetic, assisting us immeasurably when we needed to make decisions about cabinetry, finishes, fixtures, and so much more. She gave us the views, the abundant natural light, the openness that we wanted and so much more!!
And Jeff was the best general contractor that we could have hoped for. He was on top of everything from budget, to timeline, to selecting the best materials, to the top sub-contractors for every aspect of the construction and the surrounding property. He thought of things we needed to get on top of before they were even on our radar. And through it all, he was absolutely great to work with. It’s hard to imagine a better experience.
We love the home that Laura and Jeff created for us. It is everything we hoped for and so much more, and we recommend Campos & Rottler Studio without hesitation.”

“I have worked with Jeff on a number of projects from single-family homes to organizational facilities. He is well versed on all aspects of building with earth, in my opinion, simply the best, most sustainable, durable, comfortable, and beautiful material for homebuilding. From foundation to beautiful Boveda ceilings, stunning wall finishes to water catchment systems, he can do it all. He is the hardest working person I know.
Laura‘s architectural designs are not only technically competent, but creative and surprising, exploiting the unique properties of building with earth. Just take a look at the projects they have completed with both traditional earthen and conventional materials.”
